Grafton student earns Lawrence U. honors

A Grafton student has been named to the dean’s list at Lawrence University in Appleton.

Charles White was named to the annual honor roll of students demonstrating exemplary academic performance. The list is compiled at the end of the academic year once all grades have been recorded.

Lubner family reunion

About 124 members of the Lubner family from across the United States gathered at the Landt-Thiel American Legion Hall in Saukville on Aug. 6 for a reunion (top photo). They are the descendants of Frank and Martha Lubner, who came to the United State sfrom Germany in 1900 and settled in the Town of Saukville. Most of those attending came from Wisconsin, but others were from as far west as North Dakota and as far east as Georgia.

Autumn bookmobile stops announced

The Monarch Library System bookmobile will be in Ozaukee County on Tuesdays through Jan. 9.

The bookmobile will be in the county on Sept. 5 and 19, Oct. 3, 17 and 31, Nov. 14 and 28, Dec. 12 and Jan. 9.

The scheduled stops are:

• A stop and drop at Stepping Stones Children’s Center in Belgium.

• From 9:15 to 11:15 a.m. at Riveredge School in the Town of Saukville.

• A stop and drop at the Northern Ozaukee School Campus, 280 Highland Dr., Fredonia.

• From 11:30 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. there will be a stop at 201 N. Highland Dr., Fredonia.

Fall book sale set at Oscar Grady Library

A fall book sale will be held at the Oscar Grady Library from Wednesday to Saturday, Sept. 13 to 16.

The fundraiser sponsored by the Friends of the Oscar Grady Library will be held in the library community room during regular library hours.

The library is open from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Fridays and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturdays.

Proceeds will help fund the summer reading program and other library programs and meet other library needs.

Girl Scout, Brownie registrations taken

Registrations for Girl Scout and Brownie programs throughout the county are being accepted.

For girls in the Cedar Grove-Belgium School District, registration will be at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 13, in the elementary school cafeteria or contact Abby at abby@gsmanitou.org or call (920) 565-4575.

At Grafton’s Kennedy Elementary School, registration will be held at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 27, in the cafeteria or contact Kristen at decker.kristen.a@gmail.com.

Nonprofit agencies invited to UW class

Nonprofit agencies throughout the state are invited  to participate in “Fund Development and Donor Relations,” a mini-course offered by the University of Wisconsin’s Connect to Learn program.

The mini-course runs from Sept. 20 to Oct. 25 and focuses on helping organizations build relationships and strategies that support their fund development goals and the organization’s mission.

By the end of the course, participants will have a three to six-month action plan.

Alpha program to start on Sept. 27

The Alpha program, a series of group conversations that explore the basics of Christian faith, will be held for 11 weeks starting Wednesday, Sept. 27, at Vineyard Church in Grafton.

The group, which is open to people of all backgrounds and beliefs, will start with dinner at 5 p.m., then  break into groups for adults, youths and children.

Each week there will be a video followed by an opportunity for questions and conversation.

A nursery will be available for children younger than 3.

In addition to being a tasty treat, sweet corn is a good source of carbohydrates, B vitamins and fiber.

It’s also a versatile vegetable, ideal to eat on its own — grilled, roasted, microwaved or boiled on the cob — or served as an entree or side dish.

Jodi Cook has lived in several states and faced multiple medical challenges, but one activity has brought her placidity, pride and a little bit of profit: painting.

From the living room of her Belgium home, Cook works magic with her brushes and acrylics to bring animals to life, mostly birds and friends’ pets.

Breaking ground for Port’s newest church

A groundbreaking ceremony for Lakeside Alliance Church in the Prairie’s Edge subdivision on Port Washington’s south bluff, held Aug. 16, was attended by (left photo, from left) elder Seth Ogden, Prairie’s Edge developer Tony Polston of Black Cap Halcyon, elder Kyle Patch, the Rev. Jon Vallier and elder Bill Curtis. Vallier addressed those gathered after the ceremony (photo below). The church held a welcome picnic in Veterans Park on Aug. 19 that drew a crowd, including (lower right photo) Ezra, 2, Beniah, 5, and Mary Hoke.
