For three Port Washington teenagers, the dollars are in the details this summer.

They just didn’t expect so much of either.

Carter Nothem, Steele Ribbens and Harrison Ebbers, all 15 and incoming sophomores at Port High, have been busy running Sisu Details Co. on Highway KK several days per week and are booked into August.

Making sure deputies are equipped to help children in need

The Ozaukee County Sheriff’s Office is better equipped to help children with disabilities deal with emergencies thanks to the donation of 20 disability emergency backpacks from All My Friends Inc., a nonprofit organization that created All My Friends Playground in Grafton and has since focused its efforts on distributing the backpacks and creating sensory rooms to help children who are overstimulated calm themselves.

Blacksmiths give hands-on lessons at Pioneer Village

The Fire Up the Forge event on Sunday, July 9, at Pioneer Village in the Town of Saukville gave people an opportunity to learn the basics of blacksmithing from eight professionals. Young Henry Koepsell helped Zach Immel hammer a piece of hot steel (right). Kisa Trifunovich spoke with Gary Blankenheim as he prepared his forge (above). The event was organized by the Ozaukee County Historical Society, which maintains Pioneer Village.

Students recognized as scholar-athletes

Two area students were recently recognized by the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater as chancellor’s scholar-athletes.

Jill Cavanaugh of Port Washington, who is studying history education, is on the women’s cross country and track and field teams.

Drew Dlugopolski of Grafton, who is studying human performance, is on the football team.

Area students named to UW-Stout dean’s list

Nine area students have been named to the dean’s list for the spring semester at the University of Wisconsin-Stout.

Tammy Landing of Fredonia is working toward a bachelor of science degree in health, wellness and fitness.

Edward Olson of Fredonia is studying for a bachelor of science degree in engineering technology.

Emma Poeschl of Fredonia is working toward a bachelor of fine arts degree in interior design.

Lee Lepianka of Grafton is working toward a bachelor of fine arts degree in animation and digital media.

Two earn honors at Wisconsin Lutheran

Two local students were named to the spring dean’s list at Wisconsin Lutheran College.

Caleb Martens of Grafton is a senior. He is a graduate of Kettle Moraine Lutheran High School.

Ashlee Mueller of Fredonia, a senior, is a graduate of Ozaukee High School.

Local students receive U. of Nebraska honors

Two local students are among the more than 6,400 University of Nebraska-Lincoln students named to the deans’ list for the spring semester.

Emily Janowski, a senior from Fredonia,  is studying psychology and sociology in the College of Arts and Sciences.

Kate Aleknavicius, a Grafton junior, is studying management in the College of Business.

Grafton Rec Dept. offers fishing, movie, art

The Grafton Parks and Recreation Department is holding fishing, a flick and an art activity in the coming weeks.

Family fishing fun will be held from 1 to 3:30 p.m. Thursday, July 20, at Veterans Memorial Park.

Skills taught include how to tie a hook on a line, bait a hook and cast a line into the water.

Port Washington High School Class of 1973

Members of the Port Washington High School Class of 1973 gathered on July 7 and 8 for a reunion celebration that included hikes, golfing, a tour of the renovated Port High building and a meal at the Landt-Thiel American Legion Hall in Saukville. The class members, who were joined by teachers Carol Goeden and Mary Koch, also recognized 27 of their peers who have died.

Opening their exhibit

The latest exhibit at Gallery 224 in downtown Port Washington features the works of Artservancy artists Holly Buchholz and James Toth. Buchholz, a painter, is exhibiting works inspired by the Milwaukee River greenway while Toth, a sculptor, is showing items inspired by Grant Park in Milwaukee. The exhibit runs through July at the gallery, 303 N. Franklin St. The gallery is open from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Thursdays through Sundays.
