OED seeks Business of the Year nominations

Nominations are being accepted by Ozaukee Economic Development for its Business of the Year award.

Nominations will be accepted through June 6.

The award focuses on business improvement, employment, growth, expansion and profit growth.

It also looks at community support and participation in community events, as well as support of local civic groups and nonprofit organizations.

Exploring careers at Port High

Representatives from more than two dozen businesses, organizations and colleges were at Port Washington High School last week to talk with students about career options, work-based learning programs and pathways to employment after high school during a career fair. Loan fund to help finance new Grafton salon

The Grafton Village Board on Monday approved a $25,000 Revolving Loan Fund loan for a company that plans to open a beauty salon in the former Ram Tool office building at 2225 Dakota Dr. in Grafton.

AngeLia Beauty applied for one of the program’s simplified micro-loans to assist with the start-up costs of Salon Maven, which will have six salon chairs and three suites that can be used for a variety of beauty treatments.

PWSB promotes Regnitz to mortgage lending role

Port Washington State Bank has announced the promotion of Angie Regnitz to assistant vice president/mortgage lending.

In her new role, Regnitz, who was a personal banker at the bank’s Grafton branch, will assist clients with purchasing, refinancing and building homes. 

Ewig Bros. Fish Co. not forgotten in new Port deli

For generations, Ewig Bros. Fish Co. tickled the taste buds of Port Washington’s residents and visitors with the company’s iconic smoked fish, and now Dan Mueller is hoping to do the same in the building at 121 S. Wisconsin St. that for decades housed Ewig’s.

Almost a year to the day that Ewig’s closed, Mueller opened Breakwater Deli and Nostalgia, using two of the three smokers in the building to smoke fish, primarily salmon and whitefish, and meats, including hams and bacon.

Couple bring restaurant experience to Dockside Deli

The new owners of Port Washington’s Dockside Deli, Mumi and Sara Elezi, are putting in hard work cleaning and redecorating the harborfront restaurant ahead of its reopening in a couple of weeks.

The couple plans to keep much of the deli’s lunch menu — including the beloved Harbormaster sandwich — while building out its breakfast offerings to include diner classics such as crepes, thick pancakes and Chicago-style omelets.

Grafton Chamber to honor outstanding leaders, businesses

The Grafton Area Chamber of Commerce last week announced the four outstanding community leaders and businesses that will be celebrated at its annual awards reception.

At the Tuesday, April 29 event, the Outstanding Business Award will be received by Edgewater Golf Club, the Businesspersons Award by John Wirth of Digital Edge Copy and Print Centers, the Young Professional Award by Brianna Large of Handmade with Love and the Career Educator Award by Shannon Measener.

Port State Bank hires Woldt as COO

Port Washington State Bank has expanded its senior management team with the hiring of Joan Woldt as chief operating officer.

Woldt, who has more than 32 years of community and regional banking experience, will oversee retail banking, compliance and marketing while working with President James Schowalter and other members of the bank’s executive leadership team.

Child care center at a crossroads as it turns 50

In 1975, a group of Ozaukee County parents decided to solve a gap in day care services by forming a nonprofit and starting their own school in the Town of Grafton.
