Office to investigate rail crossing complaint

The Commissioner of Railroads Office has launched an investigation into a complaint of poor maintenance of Wisconsin Central Limited  railroad tracks that cross Washington Street in Grafton. 

The investigation may result in an order that WCL must complete repairs on the crossing. 

The investigation was prompted by a village complaint filed Oct. 10 alleging that WCL has failed to maintain the crossing.

The village submitted a resolution to WCL on Aug. 16, directing the company to make repairs to the crossing within 30 days. If the repairs were not made within that time frame, village staff members were directed to petition the Commissioner of Railroads to investigate the request and order a repair. 

According to the investigation notice, expenses relating to the investigation are to be paid by WCL.
