Schwai’s Meat and Sausage Market in Fredonia last week issued a voluntary recall of three of its Italian sausage products.

The Class I recall was issued due to an undeclared ingredient (soy grits) that contains the soy allergen, according to a press release from the state Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection (DATCP).

The recalled products include one-pound packages of Italian Sausage Links, Hot Italian Sausage Links and Chicken Italian Sausage Links.

All three products were sold at retail stores in Fredonia, Cedarburg and the West Bend Farmers Market.

“The recall was initiated based on evidence collected during a routine inspection conducted by state food safety staff,” the press release stated.

A Class I recall poses “a health hazard situation where there is a reasonable probability that the use of the product will cause serious, adverse health consequences or death,” according to the release.

No illnesses have been reported as a result of consuming these products.

Consumers who have any of the products are asked to return them to the original place of purchase or discard them.
