Playground program set to start July 1

The Village of Fredonia is offering a summer playground program for children ages 6 to 12 throughout July.

Starting July 1, the program will be held from noon to 4:30 p.m. Mondays through Fridays at Fireman’s Park, according to a posting in the village newsletter.

Featured will be “active games and creative crafting,” the newsletter states.

Summer parks programs usually begin in June and are coordinated with the Northern Ozaukee School District’s summer school.

Schools are closed through June 30, however, and summer school will not begin until July either in person or virtually, school officials said.

Fees for the playground program for village residents are $150 for the first child in a family and $75 for each additional child. Nonresident fees are $175 for the first child and $85 for each additional child. 

Registration forms can be obtained at the Fredonia Government Center and online at www.village.fredonia.wi.us.

Those interested can find more information on the program at an open house to be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, June 22, at the Fredonia Fire Department meeting room, 201 S. Milwaukee St. 

Playground staff will be available to answer questions about the program, provide registration forms and accept payments.

Other summer activities planned in the village include a June 27 movie at Freedom Park and a beer garden event July 18 at a location yet to be announced. Times have not been set for either event.

The Fredonia youth baseball and softball league announced last week it is reopening registration for leagues this summer.

Measures will be implemented to minimize social contact between players, coaches, spectators and umpires.

The league is also planning a coed adult softball season with games at 6:30, 7:45 and 9 p.m. Wednesdays from June 10 through July at Oak Park. The registration fee is $200 per team.
