‘Tools for Caregivers’ class to be offered online

An online version of “Powerful Tools for Caregivers” will be held from 1 to 2:30 p.m.  Tuesdays beginning May 5.
The program is designed to help caregivers care for themselves while caring for a loved one who is either living with them or in a care facility.
The class can help caregivers identify and manage stress and difficult feelings, schedule changes, increased responsibilities as they work to manage work and caregiving.
They will learn effective communication tools and several relaxation techniques that can help ease the challenges of caregiving.
Given the pandemic, many caregivers are spending much of their time at home with loved ones or are unable to visit their loved ones who are quarantined in care facilities and thus feeling a greater amount of stress.  Loved ones may also be feeling the stress of changed or disrupted schedules.
To participate, caregivers will need to have access to a computer or iPad with internet access.
Participants will receive a brief phone call from the program leader prior to the first session on how to use the computer meeting program that will be used, so minimal computer skills are necessary.
A $20 donation is suggested to cover the cost of the Caregiver Helpbook manual, but scholarships are available.
For more information or to register, call the Aging and Disability Resource Center at 284-8120.
