Port-Saukville School District honored for its music program

    The Port Washington-Saukville School District is among a select number of school systems to be honored by a national organization for its music program.
    The National Association of Music Merchants has named the district one of the  Best Communities for Music Education. It is among 27 school districts in Wisconsin and 476 in the nation to receive the honor this year.
    The honor is given to districts that demonstrate outstanding achievement in efforts to make music education available to all students.
    Among the factors considered by the association are funding, graduation requirements, music class participation, instructional time, community music programs and facilities.
    “Our music teachers are extremely dedicated,” Port Washington High School Band Director Chris Clouthier said. “They are continually working to improve their methods in order to provide the best music education for all students.
    “Additionally, the music program receives a tremendous amount of support from the district and the community. This can be seen through the numerous performance offerings given to our students both during the school day, evenings and summer school.”
    The $45.6 million high school project completed in 2018 included the renovation of the school’s auditorium, now called the Port Washington High School Performing Arts Center, which has become a performance venue for all students in the district.  The project also included new state-of-the-art music rooms.
