LETTER: President doesn’t tell the truth about wall, tariffs and tax cut
To Ozaukee Press:
When I speak to folks about the lies that Donald Trump tells, I am amazed that some big ones do not register with them.
How can folks not realize that Trump said the Mexicans would pay for the wall, but he has now turned the tables? He has taken our tax money from the Defense Department and is using that to pay for the wall. It’s a double whammy.
He told us that his tax cut for corporations and the wealthy would pay for itself. Well, why do you think there is a $1.5 trillion debt that we middle class taxpayers will now be responsible for? This lie especially hits home with me. I am a senior citizen on a fixed income, but my taxes went up $2,000 this year with no change in income. In addition, Trump proposed about $1 trillion in cuts to Medicare to pay for this tax cut, which will again hit my pocketbook.
A third huge lie that I think hits home in Wisconsin is the one he tells about tariffs. His statement saying China will pay for the tariffs is directly contradicted when we hear from economists and corporations that ultimately, we, the consumers, pay for them. We see this happening as we pay for our purchases from one week to the next. In addition, his tariffs are hurting our Wisconsin farmers. He now borrows money from China to bail out corporate farms while our family farms gradually disappear.
We as voters in the 2020 elections are responsible for being informed. It is our duty to discern the veracity of Donald Trump’s statements and vote accordingly.
