LETTER: ‘Bullies in control, ‘ Newburg residents must guard wallets

    The Newburg bullies are in control.
    It did not take Rena Chesak even a month after being elected village president to get rid of the village administrator and clerk.
    Next, she will get rid of the Newburg Police Department.
    The fire department is now in control of the Village of Newburg.
    Congratulations. Now you can rip us off for whatever amount you desire. The Newburg Fire Department not only has to have the best equipment compared to all other communities in the Ozaukee-Washington County area, it has to have more equipment than it really needs. Money is no object.
    Hang on to your wallets, Newburg. The fire department is coming after them.

Editor’s comment: Rena Chesak, the newly elected village president of Newburg, is the wife of Newburg Fire Chief Mark Chesak. The village’s Ethics Commission recently determined that she violated the village ethics code by joining a Village Board discussion about the village’s contract with the fire department in spite of a conflict of interest. The subject came up at a Village Board meeting earlier this month. Attended by a crowd of more than 30 citizens, the meeting included shouted accusations between officials and an uproar among the audience. The Village Board will decide what punishment, if any, will be ordered for the village president. That could include a fine of up to $1,000, but not removal from office. In the meantime, two Newburg village officials have resigned, citing concerns about the imbroglio (news story on page 1B of this issue).
