Hydrant flushing, curbside pickup being planned

The Village of Saukville has a number of activities and services planned for residents.

• The Saukville Water Department will flush hydrants throughout the village between 8 a.m. and 3 p.m. from Monday, April 22, through Thursday, April 25, and from Monday, April 29, through Thursday, May 2. 

Any discoloration in water is from iron and is not harmful. Running faucets for a short period of time after flushing in the area is complete will clear the lines.

If discoloration occurs, do not do laundry. If you do laundry and clothes have a reddish appearance, do not dry the clothes but rewash them in cold water to remove the discoloration. 

• The compost and appliance drop-off site will be open from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturdays through Nov. 16.

Items that are accepted include grass clippings, leaves, compost, small tree and bush stumps, appliances, air-conditioning units, dehumidifiers, dishwashers, freezers, microwaves, ovens and stoves, refrigerators, washers and dryers and water heaters.

The site is open only to village residents with identification. Not accepted are garbage, recyclables, construction materials, iron, tires or hazardous materials.

• The village wood chipper will tour the village every Monday through Oct. 28, except for holiday weeks. Branches must be curbside by 6:30 a.m., with cut ends facing the street and no larger than three-inches in diameter.

No stumps or compost will be accepted. There is a 20-minute time limit per address. 

• Wood chips can be picked up at the Department of Public Works yard waste site at 649 S. Main St. on Saturdays.

The department will only deliver full truck loads of chips — three to five yards — to residences on request. Call the department at 284-0545 to arrange delivery.

• A spring clean-up dumpster will be available from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturdays, April 20, 27 and May 4.

Acceptable items include furniture, carpeting, toys, small amounts of construction material, car batteries and one box spring/mattress set. No cardboard, waste oil, anti-freeze, paints, plant material, concrete, rocks, bricks, concrete blocks, iron, electronics or tires are allowed.
