Village allocates $30,000 for tourism promotion

The Saukville Village Board has approved a tourism promotion plan for 2019 that’s largely the same as 2018’s plan and which will help finance eight events this year and promotional expenses for the Saukville Chamber of Commerce.

Funds for the plan come from the village room tax collected at Motel 6.

According to the budget, the room tax generated $31,124 toward funding local events, up from $26,298 in 2017.

The 2019 budget projects revenue of $30,000. A surplus of $7,106 was left over from 2018 and will be applied to 2019. The 2019 budget projects a surplus of $3,306.

The room tax also contributed $9,000 to the village’s general fund in 2017 and 2018 and is expected to do so again in 2019.

The biggest single expense for the fund is $5,000 for the Fourth of July fireworks display. Other large ticket items include $4,500 for Rendezvous Days; $3,500 for the Saukville Fire Department’s car show; and $2,500 each for the Saukville Scare 5K Run/Walk, Bags and Brew Garden Event and Live at the Triangle. 

In addition, $1,000 is budgeted for the Fourth of July parade and $500 for National Night Out.

The Rendezvous Days allotment is $500 less than the event received each of the last two years, in favor of adding $500 to Live at the Triangle. Rendezvous Days had requested $10,000 in room-tax funds for 2019.

The budget also covers $2,800 in Chamber of Commerce tourism promotional expenses.
