Pool duel goes to Grafton

Grafton High School’s swim and dive team edged Port Washington, 95-88, on Jan. 10.

Michael O’Connor, Nick Starr and Gaven Depies each won two individual events to lead the Black Hawks to the narrow victory in Grafton.

O’Connor won the 200-yard freestyle in 2 minutes, 3.84 seconds, and the 100 freestyle in 54.14.

Starr won the 200 individual medley in 2:04.53 and the 500 freestyle in 5:06.37.

Depies won the 100 backstroke in 1:02.53 and the 100 breaststroke in 1:12.92.

The Hawks’ other individual victory came from Trevor Bodart in the 50 freestyle. He swam a 24.45.

The Hawks’ won two relays. The 200 medley team of Depies, Starr, Bodart and O’Connor won in 1:46.71, and the 400 freestyle team of Bodart, Jackson King, O’Connor and Starr won in 3:42.02.

The Pirates took one relay victory. The 200 freestyle team of Nick Hadacek, Mavrick Roller, Shane McConahy and Wyatt Roller won in 1:46.57.

Pirate Cale Theis won diving with 252.65 points.

While the Hawks took most of the top honors, the Pirates got 10 second places to keep them close.

Alex Sharbuno was second in the 200 individual medley in 2:28.96 and in the 500 freestyle in 5:43.85.

Wyatt Roller was second in the 50 freestyle in 25.37 and in the 100 freestyle in 55.87.

Neil Tumey was second in the 100 butterfly in 1:11.47 and in the 100 backstroke in 1:07.53.

Mavrick Roller was second in the 200 freestyle in 2:15.95, and Chase Orvis was second in the 100 breaststroke in 1:16.57

The 200 medley relay team of Tumey, Orvis, Sharbuno and Wyatt Roller was second in 1:59.19, and the 400 freestyle relay team of Joe Huebner, Tumey, Mavrick Roller and Sharbuno was second in 4:10.29.

Grafton’s Ben Niswonger was second in diving with 225.65 points, and the 200 freestyle relay team of Depies, Andy Rose, Caden Starr and King was second in 1:46.92.

The Pirates host Homestead on Thursday and swim at the Small School State invite at Shorewood on Saturday.

The Hawks swim at Nicolet on Friday.

The North Shore Conference Diving Meet is Thursday, Jan. 31, followed by the NSC Swimming Meet on Saturday, Feb. 2. Both are at West Bend.
