Man charged with assault by pan after altercation

A Saukville man has been charged with substantial battery after he allegedly struck his roommate in the head  repeatedly with a sauce pan when the roommate asked him to turn down his television.

According to a criminal complaint filed in Ozaukee County Circuit Court:

Police were called to a house on the 200 block of West Church Street at about 5:43 p.m. Sept. 3 after a man reported being hit in the head with a pan.

When they arrived, the man was bleeding profusely from cuts in his face and head and from his mouth, later requiring stitches.

The man told police that he asked his roommate, Robert P. Moore, 47, to turn down the television in his room, at which point Moore rushed out and attacked the roommate, hitting him in the face with his fist and then striking him over the head with a sauce pan more than 20 times.

Moore, who appeared to be intoxicated, told police his roommate was yelling at him for smoking in the house and that the roommate struck Moore  first with his fist and then the pan. Moore said he took the pan away from the other man and struck him with it.

Alcohol appeared to play a role in the altercation, the complaint says.

If convicted of the felony charge, Moore could be sentenced to 3 and a half years in prison and fined up to $10,000 and pay a $100 domestic abuse surcharge.
