Concessions Impressions

“We don’t have cheese.”

That’s what I was told last Friday during a pregame visit to the concession stand at the Plymouth High School football stadium.

OK, it was the last game of the regular season. Booster club rations might be running low.

But this is Plymouth. Jacob Misiorowski couldn’t stand anywhere in the city and have the rosin bag slip out of his hand without hitting a cheese factory or shop.

I passed Great Lakes Cheese on the way, and I came to find out I also went by a nearly 400,000-square-foot Sargento factory under construction. Sartori Cheese has multiple locations across the city. There’s also Master’s Gallery and the Cheese Counter and Dairy Heritage Center.

An arch across a street near downtown proclaims Plymouth the “cheese capital of the world.”

Plymouth has so much cheese that I almost want to move there.

The concession stand may have indeed run out of cheese. But replenish the supply.

I’m guessing high school concession stands across Hershey, Pa., aren’t running low on chocolate, and Mackinac Island isn’t short on fudge.

I was relegated to a hamburger. I don’t remember the last time I had one of those, but it was good. I added ketchup. The cheeseless stand didn’t have onions, either.

A hot chocolate on a cold night hit the spot, including the mini-mounds of powder at the bottom of the cup that refused to join the stirring procedure.

The Panthers are in the playoffs and host Onalaska on Friday. Someone tell the Vikings and their fans they may have to haul their own cheddar.
