Walk to eradicate polio set for Saturday

Ozaukee County Rotary Clubs will host Walk 35 Minutes for a Polio-Free Future at 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 24.

The event is intended to be a community event supporting Rotary International’s mission to eradicate polio worldwide.

Participating clubs include the Port Washington Rotary Club, Rotary Club of Cedarburg-Grafton, Thiensville-Mequon Rotary Club and the Sunrise Rotary Club.

Each club’s walk begins from its own location, with the Port club leaving from Inventors Brewpub, walking through Rotary Park and then returning to Inventors.

The 35-minute walk commemorates the fact the oral polio vaccine costs approximately 35 cents per dose.

Since launching PolioPlus in 1985, Rotary has helped reduce polio cases worldwide by more than 99.9%.

Community members of all ages are invited to participate.

In addition to walking, community members are invited to donate to Rotary’s PolioPlus Fund.
