Junk vehicles remain in question in the town

The Town of Belgium’s battle over having a property owner either remove or register a number of vehicles at his residence continues after two years.

On Tuesday, Supr. Tom Bichler said he would contact the Ozaukee County Sheriff’s Office to have a deputy sent to check if David Porath at 2084 Hwy. A has the vehicles registered.

“This has gone on way too long,” Town Chairman Tom Winker said.

Zoning Administrator Charlie Parks said he told Porath in May to start removing or registering the vehicles. He withheld a letter threatening prosecution after 30 days in hopes that Porath would comply.

Parks said Porath in July told him he got registrations for all the vehicles. Parks said he texted Porath twice and has not heard back.

The issue dates to 2024 when the board agreed to send Porath a letter telling him to remove his unregistered vehicles. Winker said the town had been getting complaints from neighbors about the vehicles.

Town ordinances don’t allow for unregistered vehicles.
