Quilt exhibit reflects post-pandemic life

“Rebound, Renew, Reimagine: Quilts from the Manhattan Quilters Guild” is a new exhibit at the Museum of Quilts and Fiber Arts in Cedarburg.

The exhibit opened Aug. 20 and runs through Nov. 15.

The Manhattan Quilters Guild presents new works that commemorate the transition to post-pandemic life.

This project was initiated to highlight the resurgence of personal interactions and the renewal of activities previously restricted during the pandemic. Each participating artist produced a quilt for the exhibition, with each piece defined by a title beginning with the prefix “re.”

Some artists used visual impressions of New York City as a design source, while others focused on the use of specific materials to create their designs. Some took inspiration from previous works of their own, reconfiguring older work to create new imagery.

A meditation on personal memories or emotions inspired some artists, while others used solitude to contemplate color, texture or process.

The 18 quilts demonstrate the diversity of individual styles, limited only by the uniformity of their 40-inch-square size.
The museum at N50 W5050 Portland Rd. is open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesdays through Saturdays and noon to 4 p.m. Sundays.
