LETTER: Attack on voting by mail is a ploy to disenfranchise voters
To Ozaukee Press:
Article 1, section 4 of the U.S. Constitution explicitly gives the states the authority to hold elections. Donald Trump has no constitutional power over elections, although he keeps trying to interfere. The SAVE Act would disenfranchise millions of voters, particularly women. Trump has tried to outlaw voting by mail, although he himself votes by mail. This move would disenfranchise millions more voters. Let’s be clear: if Trump’s policies were actually popular, he would encourage all citizens to vote. But he discourages voting precisely because Republican policies are extremely unpopular. And so Trump is trying to rig the upcoming midterm elections in Republicans’ favor. He has threatened to send masked and heavily armed ICE and military agents to polling places.
As Americans, we cannot and will not be bullied or intimidated by Trump’s authoritarian tactics. The midterm elections are Nov. 3. Be sure you are registered and then vote.
