Budweiser Clydesdales to headline county fair

Horses are one of the many animals people come to see at the county fair, and this year Ozaukee County has a special exhibition.

The Budweiser Clydesdales are making a stop at the Ozaukee County Fair on their national tour.

The fair, one of the last free fairs in the Midwest, runs from Wednesday, July 29, through Sunday, Aug. 2, at the fairgrounds in Cedarburg.

The Clydesdales will parade through downtown Cedarburg at 3 p.m. Thursday, ending at the fair’s Center Stage. A Folds of Honor presentation, which raises money for scholarships for family members of fallen and disabled members of the military and first responders, will be done at 4 p.m.

From 1 to 3 p.m. Friday and noon to 2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, people may meet the Clydesdales and take photos.

The fair is also running a 1 Billion Reasons Challenge in honor of Wisconsin county fairs generating $1 billion in economic impact.

Fairgoers may have their photo taken with the $1 Billion Impact sign, post it on Facebook or Instagram, tag Wisconsin Fairest of the Fairs, use #1BillionReasons in the post and fill out a contest entry form online to win prizes. The form is at https://forms.gle/ZonHtiVHZvBNukrW7.

Fair hours are from noon to midnight Wednesday, 8 a.m. to midnight Thursday through Saturday and from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday.

Carnival hours are from 4 to 10 p.m. Wednesday, noon to 10 p.m. Thursday through Saturday and noon to 5 p.m. Sunday.

The annual fireworks show will be held at dusk on Wednesday.

A Spot the Pig contest will be held each day of the fair. A giant stuffed pig will be placed somewhere. People may have their photo taken with it and email it to OCFPigPics@gmail.com for a chance to win a gift card to Piggly Wiggly in Cedarburg or Mequon.

Lions Club Bingo will be held from 6 to 11 p.m. Thursday, noon to 11 p.m. Saturday and noon to 6 p.m. Sunday at the Cedarburg Lions Club Tent.

The “Come as You Are” church service will be held at the 4-H Expo Center at 9:30 a.m. Sunday.

The 4-H Key Award will be presented at noon. Mr. and Miss Ozaukee County will be crowned at 1 p.m.

Cows, chickens, rabbits, horses, pigs, sheep and goats can be visited in barns throughout the fair.

Belt-sander races will be held at the Center Stage at 11 a.m. Saturday. People may bring their own electric plug-in belt sander and a chance to win Milwaukee Tool prizes.

The annual demolition derbies, run by Grand Motor Crash Inc., start at 6:30 p.m. Friday and 6 p.m. Saturday. Vehicle check-ins are at 2 p.m. on both days.

Friday’s lineup has compact/midsize in the first heat, amateurs (ages 14-15) in the second, midsize in the third and super stock midsize in the fourth. After an intermission are stock class, super stock (1977 and newer), compact two-wheel-drive pickup trucks and SUVs, followed by minivans.

Saturday’s lineup starts with four-wheel drive trucks, followed by midsize reruns, four-wheel drive compact pickup trucks and SUVs. After an intermission come full-size two-wheel drive pickup trucks, the final midsize and compacts with buses as the event’s final category.

Truck and tractor pulls are at 7 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday.

The Plein Air at the Fair Art Contest will again be held. Artists will create work at the fair on Wednesday and Thursday.

A porch goose decorating contest will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Expo Center. The registration deadline is July 31.

The stuffed animal show follows at 3 p.m.
