Twins take two from Saukville Saints in blowouts

The Saukville Saints saw enough of the Thiensville-Mequon Twins last weekend.

The Twins beat the Saints, 12-2, at Rennicke Field in Mequon on Friday and on Sunday, 17-5, at Fred Junie Dickmann Field in Saukville.

On Friday, the Twins scored four runs in the third inning. Sam Cameranesi and Ryan Quello each hit a double, and Jon Wizner and Luke Scheuerlein each doubled but got thrown out trying to stretch their hits into triples. Kevin Quello hit a single.

In the fifth inning, Quello, Jimmy Doedens, Jon Wizner and Cole Hessler hit four straight singles. A walk and a fielder’s choice brought the tally to three runs in the frame, making it 7-0. Saints’ starter Cale Heinonen whiffed the next three batters.

The Saints got on the board in the top of the sixth inning. Simon Bares singled, and Zander Goines walked. A wild pitch was followed by a two-RBI single by Chase Verbanac.

The Twins plated another three runs in the sixth. A walk, two singles and two infield outs made it 10-0.

Cameranesi ended the game via the 10-run mercy rule with a two-run double in the seventh.

Cameranesi, Ryan Quello and Wizner each had three hits for the Twins.

Bares and Verbanac had the Saints’ only two hits.

Heinonen allowed 10 runs (6 earned), 13 hits and a walk while whiffing seven in 5-1/3 innings. Colton Schall allowed two runs, two hits and a walk while striking out one in 2/3 of an inning.

Vince Cameranesi allowed two hits, two runs and four walks while striking out 12 for the Twins. Jack Durst struck out one in one scoreless inning.

On Sunday, the Twins took a 1-0 lead in the first inning on a Doedens triple and Wizner single, but the Saints answered with three runs in their half of the frame.

Bares and Goines singled, and Brian Hirschinger smacked a triple to bring them home. Verbanac hit a single to score Hirschinger.

But the Twins scored runs in the first six innings to pull away. Jerome Pawlak had a sacrifice fly to score one in the second inning.

A Scheuerlein double and a Kevn Quello single scored two runs in the third inning.

In the fourth, Pawlak doubled. A walk, a single by Wizner and a wild pitch scored a run. A groundout and sacrifice fly scored two more to make it 7-3.

The Saints answered with one run in the fourth. Mason Schroeder singled, then later scored on a single by Bares and a throwing error.

The Twins took over the game by scoring eight runs in the fifth inning, thanks to five walks and five singles.

They added two in the sixth inning.

The Saints scored their final run in the sixth inning. Schroeder singled, took second on a wild pitch, then third on an infield out. He scored on another wild pitch.

The Saints only had one less hit than the Twins — 11 to 10 — but allowed 13 walks to the Twins’ three.

Goines allowed 12 runs (nine earned), eight hits and seven walks while striking out five in four-plus innings. Schroeder allowed three runs (two earned), two hits and two walks while striking out one in one inning. Mike Zwieg allowed two runs and four walks, striking out one in one inning. Verbanac struck out one and allowed a hit in a scoreless inning.

Durst allowed two runs, six hits and three walks while striking out six in six innings. Nick Colker allowed three runs and four hits while striking out three in one inning.

Bares had three hits and Goines and Schroeder each had two.

Wizner had four hits for the Twins.

The Twins went to 7-6 in the Rock River League.

The Saints, 2-12 and losers of seven straight, play at the Slinger Stingers (6-7) at 1 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 1, and host the Brownsville 49ers (7-7) at 1 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 2.
