Oaks’ offense scores in bunches to blow out the Saints in Oakfield

The Oakfield Oaks’ bats were too much for the visiting Saukville Saints on Saturday, and on Sunday wildfire smoke was too prevalent for the entire Rock River League to play.

The Oaks scored 10 runs in the fifth and sixth innings that sealed a 15-2 victory via the 10-run mercy rule.

Saukville’s runs came in the sixth inning. Brian Hirschinger singled and Chase Verbanac clocked an RBI triple. Steve Dickmann had an RBI groundout.

For the Oaks, a single and two doubles scored three runs in the second inning. A single, walk, steal, groundout and another single scored two in the third.

Two triples keyed a five-run fifth inning. A two-run double helped plate five more in the sixth.

The Saints went scoreless in the seventh to end the game.

Hirschinger started and allowed three hits, and three runs while striking out two in 1-1/3 innings. Cole Heinonen allowed nine hits, 12 runs (nine earned) and five walks while striking out five in 4-2/3 innings.

Verbanac and Zach Plier each had two hits.

The Saints went to 2-10. Oakfield is 8-5.

All of Sunday’s league games, including the Saints vs. the Brownsville 49ers in Saukville, were canceled due to poor air quality from Canadian wildfire smoke.

The Saints play at the Thiensville-Mequon Twins (4-5) at 8 p.m. Friday, July 24. They host the Twins at 1 p.m. Sunday, July 26, at Fred Junie Dickmann Field.
