Seven Pirates earn Glacier Trails honors in soccer

The Port Washington High School girls’ soccer team finished third in the inaugural Glacier Trails Conference this season, and their postseason honors also took bronze.

Seven Pirates earned all-conference honors, third most in the GTC, and sophomore keeper Kamryn Knaub earned all-state honorable mention for her work in the net.

Knaub had 106 saves on 124 shots (85.5%). She also managed to score twice and had two assists on the season.

Five of the other six Pirates honored are seniors.

Libby Holmes was named to the first team at midfield. She scored three goals, including the game-winner in a regional semifinal against Kewaskum. She had four assists.

Holmes moved up from being named to the second team last season, and she earned honorable mention in 2024.

Madi Uselding earned first-team honors as a defender. Her two goals came on long-range direct kicks, the second to beat highly ranked Grafton in a 1-0 game in which Knaub made several highlight-reel saves.

Uselding led the team in minutes played with 1,307.

Port had three players named to the second team.

Sophomore attacker Charlotte O’Brien led the Pirates with six goals and wasn’t afraid to mix it up with physical play.

Senior midfielder Mia Blum scored two goals and had two assists.

Senior defender Payton Wysocki scored twice.

Senior midfielder Kaylee Elgin scored one goal and had one assist, earning honorable mention.

The seniors will miss their time at Port and their teammates, but they had a blast.

“These girls are some of my best friends. I’ve made many relationships I love with all of them,” Wysocki said.

“This program has meant so much,” Uselding said. “This is a great group of girls. We’re so close, so supportive of each other. They’re all my best friends.”

Elgin said, “They’re the best people. I’ve had the best coaches. Kurt (Blum) has coached me since I played club in sixth grade. It’s been awesome.”

Port finished 6-3-1 in the Glacier Trails Conference and 9-5-3 overall.

The Pirates beat Kewaskum, 1-0, at home in the playoffs before losing at Shorewood,  2-1, in a Division 3 regional final.
