Fire Up the Forge to be held on July 11

Blacksmithing returned to prominence at Ozaukee County Pioneer Village’s Fire up the Forge last year on July 12. Avery Hartmann and Julio Gonzalez shaped metal the old-fashioned way at last year's Fire Up the Forge event. Attendees also enjoyed bluegrass music, tours of the buildings, a market and food and beverages. Press file photo.

The annual Fire Up the Forge, a unique hands-on opportunity to learn some of the basics of blacksmithing, will be held from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, July 11, at Pioneer Village in the Town of Saukville

Fifteen to 20 blacksmiths will demonstrate their unique styles of iron artistry on portable forges and at the Pioneer Village blacksmith shop.

Those attending can sign up to make an item to take home with them.

A variety of food and beverages will be available to purchase in the Pioneer Village hall.

An art fair featuring local artists will also be part of the event.

Badgerland Bluegrass Music Association will present a bluegrass jam on the platform of the former Cedarburg Train Station from 1 to 5 p.m..

The village’s 24 historic buildings will be open for tours.

The event is sponsored by the Ozaukee County Historical Society, the Upper Midwest Blacksmithing Association and Storm Cloak Forge.
