Pirates’ softball team yields mixed bag during busy week

Port Washington High School’s softball team has gone 2-4 in its last six games.

On Tuesday, Port scored 10 runs in the fifth inning to close out a 19-1 win over visiting Howards Grove.

Nine Pirates had at least one RBI. Savanna Miller had three hits, including a triple, and four RBIs. Claire Lanser had two doubles and two RBIs. Kayden Stasik had a double. Stasik struck out six in three hitless innings, and Natalie Olson allowed two hits and a run, whiffing two and walking one in two innings.

On April 21, Port lost at Kewaskum, 12-2. Libby Bates had two hits and an RBI. Shelby Cash had a hit and an RBI.

At Plymouth last Thursday, a three-run seventh-inning rally fell just short in a 6-5 loss.

Jess Anewenter had two hits and an RBI. Maile Thompson had two hits. Cash had a double. Bates allowed five runs (two earned), eight hits and two walks while striking out one in five innings.

Port went 1-2 at a Sheboygan North tournament last Friday and Saturday. The Pirates lost to Greendale, 8-4, and Manitowoc Lincoln, 9-4. They beat Wauwatosa East, 10-5.

In the win, Thompson had two hits, including a triple, and an RBI. Teaghan Mueller-Stenz had two hits and two RBIs. Cash and Cadence Krueger each had a double. Bates allowed five runs (four earned), seven hits and a walk while whiffing five in six innings.

Port, 1-4 in the Glacier Trails Conference and 4-6 overall, was to play at Grafton on Wednesday, April 29. Port hosts West Bend West on Thursday, April 30, Sheboygan South on Friday, May 1, plays at West Bend East on Monday, May 4, and at Kettle Moraine Lutheran on Tuesday, May 5.

Grafton runs through rough stretch

Grafton lost to Slinger, 16-2, on April 21 and to Cedarburg, 12-2, last Thursday, Last Friday, Grafton lost, 6-2, to Homestead at home.

Against Slinger, Gabby Masse had two hits, including a double, and an RBI. Grace Zvara had two doubles. Against Cedarburg, Masse had a hit and two RBIs. Against Homestead, Zvara had two hits, including a double, and an RBI. Khiah King had two hits.

Grafton, 2-4 in the North Shore Conference and 5-6 overall, was to play at Hartford on April 28 before hosting Port. The Black Hawks host Whitefish Bay on Thursday, April 30, play at Waukesha West on May 4 and at Homestead on May 5.
