Keeping veterans warm in winter

Members of the Van Ells-Schanen American Legion Post 82 and its Auxiliary gathered Dec. 18 to take stock of the clothes they collected to donate to the Clement Zablocki Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Milwaukee, which distributes the items to its patients and homeless veterans. The items collected included four dozen men’s and women’s coats, a dozen pairs of tennis shoes, a dozen pairs of shoe boots, six dozen sets of hats and gloves, six dozen sets of thermal long johns, dozens of flannel shirts, sweatpants and sweatshirts and numerous hand warmers. The items were delivered to the VA last week, just in time to aid those in need before this week’s cold snap hit.                 Photo by Sam Arendt
