Village Board changes meeting time by half hour

Village Board meetings in Belgium will start earlier beginning next month.

The Village Board last month approved bumping up the meeting time from 7 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.

Village President Roseann Geib asked for the change.

“My feeling is I just hate going home, getting set, and all of a sudden I’ve gotta leave an hour and a half later,” she said.

A 6 p.m. start time was mentioned, but Trustee Sarah Heisler said she was concerned about trustees who may not get home from work in time. She doesn’t get back to Belgium until at least 6 p.m. The board agreed to 6:30.

“I like to watch Final Jeopardy but I can sacrifice once a month,” Trustee Rose Sauers joked.

“Jeopardy” starts at 6 p.m.

Village Attorney Brad Hoeft said he was fine with the earlier start time.

Village Treasurer Vickie Boehnlein said ordinances aren’t written in stone and can be changed if they aren’t working.

The vote was 5-0. Kevin Schueller and Dan Wolff were absent.

The first Village Board meeting to start at 6:30 p.m. will be on Monday, Jan. 12.

The meeting time falls more in line with other area municipalities. The Belgium Town Board and Cedar Grove-Belgium School Board both meet at 6 p.m.
