Rededicating a tribute to Port’s World War II service

It was fitting that the rededication of Port Washington’s World War II Memorial took place on Saturday, Nov. 8, a crisp fall day just prior to Veterans Day that drew a crowd to Coal Dock Park. The memorial, which was built in 2012 and features a replica of the Wisconsin Pillar at the World War II memorial in Washington, D.C., and bricks inscribed with the names of area veterans, was refurbished this year. From left: Jim Johnson, former Wisconsin Commander of the American Legion, and members of the crowd saluted after laying a wreath at the memorial. Mike Keller, who led the effort to refurbish the memorial, spoke about the project and the many people whose names are inscribed on the bricks while Johnson and Port Director of Parks, Recreation and Forestry Jon Crain listened.
