Lac Lawrann to hold session on raptors

The Ozaukee-Washington Birding Coalition is holding an event on raptors at 7 p.m. Wednesday, June 12, at Lac Lawrann Conservancy in West Bend.

“The History, Research and Surprise Findings from the Cedar Grove Ornithological Research Station” will be presented by station manager Danny Erickson.

The station was established to study migration south by raptors and is the longest-continuing raptor banding operation in North America.

Erickson will discuss the station’s history, raptor migration and the results of research to better understand and conserve raptors in the western Great Lakes region.

Erickson is a bird-banding biologist from Wauwatosa who studied at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. He has worked at Hawkwatch International, The Peregrine Fund, Hawk Ridge Bird Observatory and Mackinac Straits Raptor Watch. He has overseen the Cedar Grove station’s raptor count and banding operations since 2021.

Register for in-person or Zoom attendance by emailing info@laclawrann.org.
