County 4-H livestock teams earn honors

Eight members of the Ozaukee County 4-H livestock judging team competed in the Wisconsin Youth Livestock Meat Judging contrest in Madison on Saturday, Feb. 8.

Jorjie Mejchar placed fifth in the state while Emmet Michaels placed eighth.

Their team, which included Mejchar, 16, Michaels, 15, Rebecca Gierach, 16, and Peter Lotz, 17, placed third of nine teams.

The fourth-place team included Augusto Noll, 17, Bently Kraus, 15, Amaya Gahan, 16, and Judy Jentges, 17.

The teams were coached by Teri Mejchar, Jim Rychtik and Gail Kraus.

Contestants judge port and beef carcasses, wholesale and retail cuts and methods of cooking.

About 85 teens from throughout the state took part in the competition.
