Hundreds walk for cause in Port

Holding buckets of Promise Garden Flowers that were distributed to the hundreds of people who participated in the Ozaukee County Walk to End Alzheimer’s in Port Washington on Sept. 30 were Sue Chavin, Anna Potter and Andi Zimmerman (above). The women are members of Rise 2020, a social and volunteer group based in Mequon. Amanda Gabert (left) held one flower of each color, which have special meanings. For instance, people carry purple flowers if they have lost a loved one to Alzheimer’s and yellow flowers if they are caring for someone with the disease. More than 830 people participated in the Port walk, which began with an opening ceremony in Veterans Park. The Alzheimer’s  Association event — one of 600 held throughout the country — raised $78,569 for Alzheimer’s care, support and research.    Photos by Sam Arendt
