James B. Buck

Oct. 17, 1965 – April 13, 2022

James Bernard Buck, 56, of Omaha, Neb., passed away on April 13, 2022, of a sudden heart attack.

He was a beloved husband, father, son, brother, uncle and friend — and was taken from us too soon.

Jim was born in Milwaukee, Wis., on Oct. 17, 1965, to the late William and Kathryn Buck.

He grew up in the Village of Saukville, Wis., along with his five siblings. He attended high school in Port Washington, Wis., and excelled in football as a Port “Pirate.”

He graduated high school in 1984 and received multiple honors in football. He went on to play football for the South Dakota State University Jackrabbits in Brookings, S.D., and graduated college in 1989 with a bachelor of science degree in mathematics and computer science.

Jim met his wife Jayne during college and they married in 1991 in Yankton, S.D. They lived in Omaha and were blessed with three children.

An entrepreneur at heart, Jim and his wife owned several businesses over the years. His recent life’s work was investing in real estate and renovating homes, “flipping homes.” Jim thoroughly enjoyed the transformation process and took great satisfaction in the finished product. He worked hard, played hard, lived hard and loved hard.

More than anything, he loved spending time with his family. He coached youth sports for his kids when they were young and never missed a dance or chorus recital, music concert, art show, sporting or school event. He supported his wife and kids in all their endeavors, and nothing made him prouder than to see his kids pursuing their dreams and goals as adults. He was their biggest fan.

Jim loved boating, family parties and barbecues. If the Bucks were hosting, you knew that you were in for a real treat from the grill. There were many good times spent with family and friends.

And despite the distance, Jim always maintained close ties with his family and relatives in Wisconsin. He looked forward to his daily football conversations with his son, brothers and friends.

Jim had a big heart and was very giving of his time. He was always lending a helping hand to whoever needed it and made people smile with his jokes and humor.

We are so grateful for our time on this earth with this beautiful human being. Now, it is time for Jim to join his heavenly family, where he will be our guardian angel throughout life. We will all be together again someday. Our “Rock” will be dearly missed, and he is surely driving a boat off into the sunset.

Jim is survived by his wife of 31 years, Jayne; their three children, Briana, Brody and Breleigh; three brothers, Terrance (Shelly) Buck, Daniel (Shawn) Buck and Matthew Buck; two sisters, Jennifer (William) Erhardt and Micky (David) Treske; his mother’s sister, Mary Ann Rusch; his father’s sister; Karen Thorstenson (John); his father’s brother, John Lundstrom (Sandy); mother and father-in-law, Maureen and Leon Abler; sisters-in-law Candyce (Gary) Koch, Susan Abler, Lynette Abler and Shari Abler; 11 nephews; four nieces; three great-nephews; one great-niece; many extended relatives and friends.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents, William and Kathryn Buck, and his mother’s brother, Elroy Rusch.

Jim was a tissue donor and helped many recipients in need. Cremation has taken place. Interment will be directed by the family.
