With two people running for three trustee seats on the Belgium Village Board in Tuesday’s election, the person receiving the most write-in votes earned the option to join the board.

That turned out to be Dan Wolff, who beat registered write-in candidate Jeffrey Thiel. Wolff received 28 votes to Thiel’s 23, Village Clerk Julie Lesar said.

A total of 97 write-in votes were cast.

Lesar had a call out to Wolff on Wednesday morning to see if he would accept the trustee position. If he doesn’t, the spot would not automatically go to Thiel. The Village Board would determine how to fill the vacancy, Lesar said.

The two incumbents running unopposed were re-elected. Josh Borden received 361 votes (42%) and Rose Sauers received 332 (46%).

Turnout in the village was 40%, Lesar said, with 574 of 1,435 residents casting ballots.

In other election results, all uncontested incumbents won in the Town of Belgium and on the Cedar Grove-Belgium School Board.

Town Chairman Tom Winker received 305 votes. There were seven write-ins. Supr. Tom Bichler received 289 votes and Supr. Bill Janeshek received 234. There were six write-in votes.

Town Clerk Ginger Murphy received 341 votes and Treasurer Dayle Parks received 317 votes. There was one write-in vote in each race.

In the School Board races, Chad Hoopman retained the Sheboygan County seat with 1,280 votes between Ozaukee and Sheboygan counties. Eight write-in votes were cast. Lori Gruell retained the Ozaukee County seat with 1,223 votes. Ten write-in votes were cast.
