Winifred ‘Winnie’ Hughes

Winifred “Winnie” Hughes (nee Ridyard) of Port Washington was born to eternal life on January 10, 2023 in Panama City Beach, FL, at the age 85 with family by her side.

Winnie was born in Bolton, England, on September 25, 1937 to Edwin and Miriam Ridyard.

She married David Hughes in Bolton on August 31, 1957 and had three children in England before moving to Wisconsin in 1967, where she had another child.

She is survived by her beloved and devoted husband of 65 years David Hughes, and her children Janice (Perry) Obright, Steven (Leslie) Hughes, Paul (Pamela) Hughes and Alicia (Rick) Kufahl.

She was the cherished grandmother of Michael (Ellie) Tony, Chris, Danielle (Kyle), Eric, Ben and had two great-grandchildren.

She is further survived by her brother John (Chris) Ridyard, niece Andrea, nephew Paul and their families, all in England.

Winnie was an active and spirited woman who was proud of her English heritage. She enjoyed and excelled at netball, rounders, volleyball, bowling and later in life was a member of the Hawthorne Honeys golf league, getting her name in the paper many times for “the best of.”

She enjoyed dancing, watching the backyard birds and brandy Manhattans, no bitters please!

Winnie and David enjoyed camping, traveling and for the past 20 years as snowbirds in Panama City Beach, FL, where they made many new friends.

A celebration of Winnie’s life will be held back in Wisconsin at a later date to be announced.
