William L. “Wil” Paulson

William L. “Wil” Paulson, 74, of Burlington passed away Tuesday, July 21, 2026, with his loved ones at his side at the Wisconsin Veteran’s Home in Union Grove.

Born in Aiken, S.C., on April 9, 1952, he was the son of August and Marion (nee Betz) Paulson.

His early life was spent in Port Washington, Wis., and he served as an 82nd Airborne paratrooper in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam era.

On June 18, 1982, he was united in marriage to Margaret “Pegg” McCourt.  Following their wedding, they made Yorkville their home, followed by Burlington for the past 36 years.

Wil worked for Gateway Technical College for 35 years as a grounds maintenance supervisor.

He was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Burlington and member of the DAV (Disabled American Veterans). He sponsored Highground Veterans Memorial Park, enjoyed riding his motorcycle and landscaping for friends and family. He loved watching NASCAR and Brewers’ and Packers’ games. He often could be found listening to Brewers’ games on his patio.  He also enjoyed camping, fishing and hunting, including his once-in-a-lifetime hunting trip to Alaska.

Wil loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren, who were his greatest joy. Some of Wil’s favorite moments were spent with his “Port” friends. We will miss his very keen and wry sense of humor.

Wil is survived by his wife Margaret; children Billy (Sarah) Paulson and Ben (Hanna) Paulson; grandchildren Billy, Gracelyn, Cooper and Lincoln; sister Linda (Harry Levin) Mockus; in-laws Maureen (Forrest) George, Mike (Debi) McCourt, Jim (Terri) McCourt, Kathleen (Marvin) Daniels and Tim (Barb) McCourt; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Eugene “Butch” Paulson, as well as his father and mother-in-law Jim and Jane McCourt.

The family would like to thank the nurses and staff at the Wisconsin Veteran’s Home Boland Hall along with Dr. Paul Webber and Aurora Home Hospice for their care during this time.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Highground Veterans Memorial Park, W7031 Ridge Rd., Neillsville, WI 54456, or St. Mary Catholic Church in Burlington.

Services will be held Thursday, July 30, 2026, at 5:30 p.m. at Schuette-Daniels Funeral Home with honors to follow.  Relatives and friends may visit with the family from 3 until 5 p.m. at the funeral home.

A private burial will take place at St. Mary Cemetery.
