The Grafton High School track and field teams took advantage of pleasant weather and held their own against upper-division competition at the Spartan Invite in West Bend last Friday.

“Friday’s meet brought some of the better weather we have had there in quite some time — it was West Bend nice — and the results reflected it,” coach Jason Meinen said.

The boys scored 61 points and finished fifth of 12 teams. Menomonee Falls won with 151, followed by Homestead’s 127.

The 800-meter relay of Max Glab, Hunter Klippel, DJ James and Seva Belousov won in a meet record 1 minute, 29.26 seconds.

“That mark ranks as the second-fastest in school history and is among the top times in the state, regardless of division,” Meinen said.

That same group was fourth in the 400 relay in 43.47 seconds, ranking second in school history.

James was second in the 200 in 22.35 seconds, the fifth-fastest in Grafton history and among the top times in Division 2 this season, Meinen said.

The same quartet won the 400 relay in 51.73 seconds.

Brezovar, Barthelemy, Melanie Morgan and Tagliapietra won the 1,600 relay in 4:09.4.

All three of those relays’ times rank in the top 10 in Division 2, Meinen said.

Morgan was third in the 300 hurdles in 49.45 seconds.

The girls scored 59 points and finished sixth of 11 teams. Manitowoc Lincoln won with 124. Plymouth scored 83 and Slinger had 82.
