Village may examine its winter parking restrictions after complaint

Belgium could revisit its winter parking restrictions after a village resident requested on Monday they be changed.

Jeff Klein told the Village Board he got a ticket for parking on the street between 3 and 7 a.m. Area communities such as Cedar Grove, Port Washington and Oostburg, he said, have restrictions from 2 to 6 a.m.

Klein said he leaves for work at 6:30 a.m.

Klein also asked that restrictions start Dec. 1 — as in other communities — instead of Nov. 15.

“I would say this is for keeping our streets a little cleaner without having cars in the way if we do have snow,” Village President Pete Anzia said.

“Last year, we started plowing snow on Halloween,” Public Works Director Dan Birenbaum said.

The Village Board said the Public Works Committee may examine the rules.
