Village hires new phone, internet service provider
The Village of Belgium found cheaper phone and internet rates from a company that will provide faster service.
The Village Board on Monday unanimously approved switching from BCN to Spectrum, per the recommendation of the Finance and Personnel Committee.
“Spectrum’s quote came in considerably less, less than half of what we’re paying with BCN,” Village Treasurer Vickie Boehnlein said.
The only glitch with Spectrum is it doesn’t offer service at the wastewater treatment plant for emergency dialing.
Boehnlein said the village could use a landline service from Frontier at $35 per month.
Even with the Frontier line, the village would save about $3,000 “and, in fact, have faster internet,” Boehnlein said.
Spectrum also doesn’t require a contract, unlike BCN, she said.
The Spectrum service will start Jan. 1.
