Village handles rainstorm

Nearly six inches of rain fell on Belgium on Sunday, flooding streets and backyards.

However, Public Works Director Dan Birenbaum said, no roads were closed. Park Street near the village’s maintenance shop and Beach Street near Community Park had the most water, he said.

“You could drive through there. There wasn’t much traffic Sunday afternoon when it was raining,” he said.

Crews began working Sunday afternoon to alleviate flooding. Two backyards in areas where there isn’t much drainage were pumped out.

The areas have since gone back to normal, Birenbaum said.
