Van Roo tapped to fill vacancy on Village Board

The Fredonia Village Board gained a new member last week after trustees appointed Shane Van Roo to fill a vacancy created when Peter Lenz was elected village president in April.

Van Roo, 26, owns and operates Van Roo Fitness in Kewaskum with his wife, Tamara, and has lived in the village for about a year, he said.

He said they moved to Fredonia because it’s where his wife grew up. She is a graduate of Ozaukee High School.

The board vacancy was created after Lenz  ran for both trustee and president in the April election and declined the trustee position in order to take the office of president.

The Village Board asked for those interested in filling the spot to submit a letter of interest or a resume. Candidates were interviewed at the board’s May 1 meeting, after which Van Roo was selected. 

“I just want to be involved in the community,” Van Roo said, explaining his interest in the position. “One of my top priorities is spending efficiency and keeping costs low for village residents.”
