Trustees to take on new seats

After half a century, the Belgium Village Board decided it was time for new seats.

The board last month voted to purchase new chairs not to exceed $200 per chair.

“These chairs were here in 1979,” Village President Roseann Geib said.

She said she didn’t think the village needed to purchase the warranty for the chairs.

“Depends on if they’re going to last 50 years,” Public Works Director Dan Birenbaum joked.

“I think they will,” Geib said. “I’m not going to be here 50 years from now, so I don’t know.”

Trustee Sarah Heisler said the year the current chairs were purchased is similar to the year of her birth.

“That’s how old these chairs are,” Geib said.

The board agreed to buy 10 new chairs — seven for the board, one for the village attorney and one each for the clerk and treasurer.

Money would come from the village’s fund balance account, a savings account for unexpected expenses. That account would remain strong even after the chair purchase, Treasurer Vickie Boehnlein said.
