Tree City USA application to go to board
The Belgium Parks, Recreation and Forestry Committee last week recommended to the Village Board to apply for Tree City USA status.
Earning such a title requires municipalities to plant a tree during Arbor Day observations and spend $2 per resident on forestry care, which translates to $4,500 for Belgium. The committee and officials determined the village already spends that much.
The Village Board may vote on the issue at its Monday, Aug. 13, meeting.
The committee tabled action on adding a little library to the village, per a resident’s request.
Village Clerk Julie Lesar said she emailed the resident about the meeting and did not hear back. Committee Chairman Don Gotcher said he would call the resident.
“I personally have seen these little libraries in different places, different cities, different villages. They seem to work quite well,” he said.
