Town sticks with one e-cycle event

The Town of Belgium won’t hold another E-cycle event this year.

Supr. Tom Bichler, citing the success of the May event, floated the idea of a second one.

He said he talked to John Bellmann, owner of Kiermar, the company that provided the dumpsters this year, and was told one event was enough.

“He was impressed with the turnout. He was really surprised with the tonnage,” Bichler told the Town Board this month.

Eighteen tons of recyclables were collected via a new system instituted due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Residents stayed in their vehicles as six volunteers removed items. The line of cars at the town transfer site stretched onto the road.

Keirmar provided staff and dumpsters at no cost this year. It was the first time the town used the new company.

For regular recyclables, the town transfer site at 1215 Jay Rd. is open during summer from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturdays and from 5 to 8 p.m. on Wednesdays.
