Town residence getting cleaned

A Town of Belgium resident who has received a letter to clean up her property on Highway A is trying to do just that, Stephanie Prom-Laabs told the Town Board last month.

The town was initially concerned about a large burn pile and unlicensed vehicles on the property. Prom-Laabs received a letter last December asking her to bring the property into conformity.

“I’m sorry that it looked unkempt. We’re trying,” Prom-Laabs said.

Her parents in their 60s are helping, as well as her son.

“I’m disabled. I can only do so much,” she said.

She burned stumps from dead trees on her property, and her son inherited vehicles for a plowing business but they turned out to be junk. The final unlicensed truck was to be sold soon, Prom-Laabs said.

“I thank you for what you have done so far,” Town Chairman Tom Winker said.

The neighboring house owned by Craig Noll has been an eyesore for more than a decade and neighbors have complained, but the town has struggled to do anything about it since Noll was issued a building permit in 2014 — before the town enacted time limits on permits.

“The insulation blows into my yard,” Prom-Laabs said.

“I truly think we should talk to the attorney. If nothing else, start proceedings on a raze order,” Supr. Bill Janeshek said.

Zoning Administrator Charlie Parks said he would check with town attorney Paul Alexy, who in the past has said nothing could be done.

“We need something to get done,” Janeshek said.
