Town distributes updated tax numbers
Updated tax information was distributed at the Town of Belgium’s monthly meeting on Dec. 3.
The town’s 2019 tax rate is $1.60 per $1,000 of value, up from $1.45 the previous year.
That means the owner of a $250,000 home will pay $400 in local taxes, an increase of $38.50.
The increase is primarily due to the town paying its portion — $43,305 — toward a new grass fire truck for the Belgium Fire Department.
The village is paying $31,695 toward the $89,264 truck. The rest is being picked up by an anonymous donor.
The county tax rate is $1.98 per $1,000, but residents’ tax bills will differ depending on the school district in which they live.
Cedar Grove-Belgium has a tax rate of $9.10 per $1,000 of equalized value, with a tech school rate of .768 cents. Northern Ozaukee has a rate of $10.05 with a tech school rate of $1.18. Random Lake has a rate of $8.72 with a tech school rate of .768 cents.
Regardless of district, the school tax credit is $1.74, which gets subtracted from the total.
Total tax rates for town residents are: $11.7 for those in the Cedar Grove-Belgium School District; $13.0 for those in Northern Ozaukee; and $11.33 for those in Random Lake.
