Town changes snow contract

In a move that already seems to be paying off, the Town of Belgium has hired a new snow removal provider paid in a different way.

The Town Board last week approved hiring Top Chop LLC, of Cedar Grove, owned by Garrett Dodson, for $5,000. The town is evenly splitting the cost with Belgium Family Dental Center, which is adjacent to Town Hall.

The company is being paid a flat rate instead of by the hour. It came in with the lower of two bids.

“We’ll see how it turns out,” Supr. Tom Bichler said. “The more it snows, the more the town benefits.”

Top Chop will just plow the Town Hall and dentist’s parking lot. Ozaukee County handles the town’s recycling center.

ν Winter parking tickets are being handed out in the Village of Belgium. Village Marshal Leon Anzia on Monday said he issued 83 warnings in the first two weeks and began handing out tickets on Dec. 1. Street parking is not allowed between 3 and 7 a.m. from Nov. 15 through March 31.
