Town asks residents to weigh in on rough railroad crossing

Town of Grafton officials are seeking feedback on the state of the railroad crossing on Ulao Road east of I-43.

The town needs to provide information to the railroad on Thursday, April 24, regarding issues residents have had with the crossing.

Town officials are asking residents to provide a sentence describing issues encountered or provide photos of the road or of damage to vehicles.

Ozaukee County Public Works officials have contacted Union Pacific railroad officials in an attempt to repair the crossing. But after receiving no reply they appealed the matter to the state Commissioner of Railroads.

On Tuesday, county Public Works Director Jon Edgren said he recently submitted his testimony to the Commissioner of Railroads. The railroad has to submit their response by Thursday.

Unless the railroad simply agrees to repair the crossing, there will be another opportunity for the public to submit responses in a couple weeks, Edgren said.
