Three Grafton school records fall at Ripon indoor track meet

Callie Faust is at it again. The Grafton High School senior set another school record in distance running last week.

Faust ran the 3,200-meter race at the Ripon College Invitational in 11 minutes. 45.17 seconds, “requiring another update to the record boards,” coach Jason Meinen said.

Faust, who holds multiple track school records and the cross country mark, finished third in the race.

Grafton’s 1,600 relay of Emily Sewell, Abby Barthelemy, Melanie Morgan and Cali Tagliapieta won in 4:14.34. Sewell was second in the 400 in 1:03.25 and Tagliapietra was third in the 800 in 2:25.05.

The girls scored 30 points and finished eighth of 23 teams. Kaukauna won with 65 points. Slinger was second  with 45.

On the boys’ side, DJ James set a school indoor record in the 60 dash by finishing in 7.21 seconds, taking fourth.

Vinh Ho set an indoor mark in the 60 hurdles in 9.48 seconds, taking 10th.

The 800 relay of Ho, Hunter Klippel, James and Jack Nelson was second in 1:36.85. James was fifth in the 200 in 23.55, and Asher Kagamba was fifth in the 3,200 in 10:44.32.

Jack Marti was sixth in the long jump, traveling 20 feet, 4 inches. Klippel was sixth in the 60 dash in 7.24 and Nelson was eighth in 7.3. Max Glab was sixth in the 400 in 53.76. The 1,600 relay of Glab, Ho, Malik Cain and Seva Belousov was sixth in 3:49.17.

The Hawks scored 36 points and tied for fifth of 20 teams. Green Bay Preble won with 88, followed by West De Pere’s 87.

Grafton’s final indoor meet of the season will be Saturday, April 4, in the Wisconsin Indoor Championships at Whitewater with a select group of athletes who had to qualify to participate.
