Three artists set to exhibit at Gallery 224

Gallery 224 in downtown Port has announced its featured arists in July and August.

They are Kathryn E. Martin, Megan Muthupandiyan and Megan Woodard Johnson.

Their works will be featured at the gallery from July 6 to Aug. 31.

An artists’ reception and poetry reading will be held at Gallery 224 from 4 to 7 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 3.

Martin used weekly walks at the Kratzsch Conservancy as inspiration to create a 52-piece collection — one for each week of her year-long residency — of found art/mixed media collage.

Muthupandiyan is a poet, artist and educator who is passionate about creating space for people to contemplate art, poetry and the natural world.

She is also the founder of the Poetry in the Parks project and spent her residency at Tall Pines Conservancy.

Woodard Johnson’s mixed media paintings are created by layering vintage collage papers, acrylic paint, oil pastel, charcoal, graphite, colored pencil and ephemera.

Her pieces are described as dense compositions of bold brush strokes, expressive drawn lines and intriguing bits of collage that celebrate the build-up of large and small moments that create our everyday lives and overlapping interactions.

Her residency was at Hepburn Woods.

Gallery 224 at 303 N. Franklin St. is open from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Thursdays through Sundays.
