Thomas F. ‘Tommi’ Cavanaugh

Thomas Cavanaugh of Port Washington passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family at Lawlis Family Hospice in Mequon. He was 63 years old.

Tommi was born in Wisconsin Rapids on Sept. 17, 1959, the son of Thomas and Kathleen (nee Daly) Cavanaugh.

He grew up in Wisconsin Rapids and graduated from Assumption High School in Wisconsin Rapids with the Class of 1977.

After high school, Tommi waterskied professionally at Sea World in Orlando, Fla.

Tommi graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Madison with a bachelor’s degree in both education and Afro-American studies.

Tommi taught in Maine, Alaska and Wisconsin. He retired from the Port Washington-Saukville School District in 2019.    

On Aug. 2, 2008, he married Magdalena Sobczyk in Wisconsin Rapids.

Magda and Tommi moved to Alaska, and in 2012 their son Thomas was born.

Tommi was a very kind family man. His love was skiing, both water and snow. He felt at home in the mountains. He also enjoyed traveling, biking, sailing, good food and being outdoors.

Tommi is survived by his wife Magda and son Thomas.

He is further survived by four siblings, Kerry Cavanaugh, Patrick (Kathy Butler) Cavanaugh, Timothy (the late Eric Vidal) Cavanaugh and Katy (Dave Nelligan) Cavanaugh, nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents Thomas and Kathleen Cavanaugh.

A memorial service celebrating Tommi’s life will be held on Saturday, March 11, at noon at Eernisse Funeral Home, 1600 W. Grand Ave., Port Washington.

A visitation will precede the service on the March 11 from 11 a.m. until noon.

He will be laid to rest at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery in Port Washington.
